Dinkra Gouda: a shop with a Ghanaian atmosphere

Dinkra, Kleiweg 10, opened its doors Thursday July 7 2016. The shop is run by Debora Boadu and her sister Anita van Holst. The shop offers an Ghanaian atmosphere which is reflected by the products they sell.

Since Debora Boadu married Albert Boadu, born in Ghana, she is fascinated by the fabrics, materials and symbols Ghana is all about "Dinkra is short for Adinkra, symbols that are used in daily life by the Ashanti, one of the population groups living in Ghana. Adinkra includes more than 200 symbols with a special meaning. We have chosen twelve symbols we think are the most important and try to bring back their meaning in our products, these are, for example, love, power and family, " Debora said.

Atelier
In our workshop,  the bags, pillows and make-up bags are designed and sewn on the first floor. "My sister takes care of producing the products. I focus on entrepreneurship and marketing. When a customer sees a product in our store, but prefers a different print/fabric they are very welcome in our workshop to choose a different  print or fabric. It all started with a webshop, but the geniune store offers us a better opportunity to tell the story behind the products. More appealing for our customer. "

Historic center
Debora chose Gouda because of its old historic center. "I am delighted with the shop and the help we got of the other shop owners in our neighbourhood. We have received many positive comments from customers too. They think Dinkra it is an assett to shopping in Gouda. "
